SAN JOSE, Calif., March 1, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Oclaro, Inc. (NASDAQ: OCLR), a leading provider and innovator of optical communications solutions, today announced production shipments of the industry's first fully-tunable SFP+ industrial temperature range (TSFP+ I-temp) transceiver. The availability of this transceiver represents a major milestone for cable companies deploying the latest DOCSIS 3.1 standard which pushes fiber installation much deeper into the HFC network to reach next-generation Remote Phy nodes.
Cable networks need to offer best-in-class bandwidth to retain their customers and enable premium services. With more than 50 million homes served by MSOs in the US alone and up to 1 million new nodes, the deployment of 10G full-duplex per node over the next four to five years can only be achieved with products such as fully-tunable DWDM lasers that are easy to install, configure, and monitor.
"Fully Tunable DWDM laser technology is critical to enable large scale fiber deep deployment while minimizing operations cost and eliminating human errors," said Yves LeMaitre, Chief Strategy Officer at Oclaro. "With tunable lasers capable of operating from -40 to 85 degrees C, we believe the days of analog optics or fixed WDM lasers are counted. Once you start using tunable products, the operational benefits such as automatic configuration and reduced sparing are just too great to go back to legacy optics."
About the TSFP+ I-temp
The TSFP+ is Oclaro's latest product offering to include I-temp and follows the company's 10G TSFP+ C-temp and E-temp, which are both shipping today. The TSFP+ is vertically integrated through the use of Oclaro's in-house ILMZ chip and its custom-designed TOSA and ROSA technology. The product is capable of operating from -40C to 85C thanks to the unique material composition of the ILMZ chip and custom tuning of thermal and electronic control components. The TSFP+ I-temp is available today for volume production orders.
