Forbes compiled its America's Best Employers list based on results of an independent online survey conducted by research firm Statistica. Over 30,000 American employees working for mid-size and large companies in various industries with at least 1,000 employees were asked if they would recommend their employer to friends or family.

Willingness to recommend one's own employer was used as the most important factor in the survey and given the most weight.  Respondents were consulted anonymously which allowed them to express their opinions about various work factors such as pay, avenues to advancement and pride in service or products the company provides.
