The Grand Aquarium is the centerpiece of Ocean Park's Aqua City development, which opened in January 2011. Nearly 3 million people have enjoyed the aquarium in the 6 months since its opening and the Park is on a record pace to eclipse the prior attendance record of last year.
"It has to be said that Aqua City, including the Grand Aquarium, are key contributors to the success we are enjoying," says Tom Mehrmann, CEO of Ocean Park.
The Aquarium is configured as a journey that starts at the sunny seashore, but will quickly bring you to the darkest depths of the ocean floor where you see the ocean life glide above your head through the world's largest acrylic dome. The exterior design of the Grand Aquarium adds to the allure of the attraction, becoming a beautiful lantern during Ocean Park's popular nighttime show, Symbio. "PGAV is extremely pleased to have assisted Ocean Park with this landmark project," according to Jim Moorkamp, Principal PGAV Destinations. "This project represents our first major attraction opening in Asia, with much more coming in the next few years."
The Grand Aquarium will be prominently featured in the upcoming August issue of PGAV Destination's award-winning publication Destinology.
