OC.com Available for First Time
Rare, two-letter domain name ideal for Orange County, CA, businesses, municipalities
IRVINE, Calif., May 11, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- The rare internet domain OC.com is available for purchase for the first time since 1991 with Heritage Auctions.
OC.com was among the earliest domain names ever recorded, said Aron Meystedt, Director of Domains & Intellectual Property at Heritage Auctions, which is brokering the sale. Heritage Auctions is the only mainstream auction house to sell domains and digital goods and is a broker for such rare URLs, with more than $10 million in sales. The auction house also sells roughly $850 million annually of fine art and high-end collectibles across 40 categories, including jewelry, sports memorabilia, comic art, U.S. coins and more.
"Two-letter domains are ideal for municipal use, especially since such names and their values are exploding in price due to the rarity of just 676 combinations available," Meystedt said. "Most are in use by major corporations such as AA.com (American Airlines), ML.com (Merrill Lynch), FB.com (Facebook) because they are such memorable real estate on the internet."
Heritage Auctions opened its Orange County office late last year in the Irvine Spectrum. Meystedt heads up the office and is also a member of the Tech Coast Angels, an Orange County angel investment network.
"OC.com could be the ultimate asset for a company that represents Orange County," Meystedt said. "LA.com sold for more than $1 million last year to the Tribune company and we see a similar opportunity for this rare domain as well."
