OCC Hosts Risk Assessment and Credit Risk Workshops in Dallas
WASHINGTON, Aug. 26, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Office of the Comptroller of the Currency will host two workshops in Dallas at the Embassy Suites Dallas-Park Central, Sept. 30-Oct. 1, for directors of national community banks and federal savings associations.
The Credit Risk and Risk Assessment workshops are designed exclusively for directors of institutions supervised by the OCC. Both workshops are taught by seasoned OCC supervision staff.
The credit risk workshop focuses on the roles of the board and bank management, current events, emerging industry trends, and a range of credit issues, from the credit approval process, to managing credit risk, to collections.
"The credit risk workshop is a terrific refresher on the importance of a strong credit culture and how bank directors can influence it," said Richard Dixon, Assistant Deputy Comptroller for the Los Angeles office and credit risk instructor. "Effective credit risk management is key to running a safe and sound institution."
The risk assessment workshop discusses the OCC's approach to risk-based supervision, and best practices to identify, measure, monitor and control risk. The interactive sessions also cover industry hot topics, such as credit risk, interest rate risk, and the regulatory environment.
"The workshop provides a good understanding of how directors can best fulfill their responsibilities as board members," said Brian James, Assistant Deputy Comptroller for the Milwaukee, Wis., office and risk assessment instructor. "We emphasize strategic planning and risk assessment, and how the board's decisions affect and set the strategic direction for the bank."
The fee is $99 for each workshop. Participants receive a pre-workshop reading package and course materials, and assorted supervisory publications. Each workshop is limited to the first 35 registrants.
The workshops are among 35 being offered nationwide to enhance and expand the skills of national community bank and federal savings association directors.
