OCC Hosts Risk Assessment and Compliance Risk Workshops in Minneapolis
WASHINGTON, June 17, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Office of the Comptroller of the Currency will host two workshops in Minneapolis, Minn., at the Hyatt Regency Minneapolis, July 22-23, for directors of national community banks and federal savings associations.
The "Compliance Risk" and "Risk Assessment" workshops are designed exclusively for directors of institutions supervised by the OCC. Both workshops are taught by seasoned OCC supervision staff.
The compliance risk workshop focuses on major compliance risks and consumer protection regulations, such as the Qualified Mortgage Rule, Bank Secrecy Act, and Community Reinvestment Act, along with key elements of an effective compliance risk management program.
"The workshop provides directors with the basic components of a good compliance program," said Paul Groot, Assistant Deputy Comptroller for the Cincinnati and Columbus, Ohio, offices and Compliance Risk Instructor. "We teach directors to ask questions of their management teams to ensure the process is working as it should."
The risk assessment workshop discusses the OCC's approach to risk-based supervision, and best practices to identify, measure, monitor and control risk. The interactive sessions also cover industry hot topics, such as credit risk, interest rate risk, and the regulatory environment.
"The workshop provides a good overview of the risk assessment process," said Brian James, Assistant Deputy Comptroller for the Milwaukee, Wis., office. "It's especially helpful for new directors, as they'll learn how to use risk assessment in the boardroom to set the strategic direction for the bank."
The fee is $99 for each workshop. Participants receive a pre-workshop reading package and course materials, and assorted supervisory publications. Each workshop is limited to the first 35 registrants.
The workshops are among 35 being offered nationwide to enhance and expand the skills of national community bank and federal savings association directors.
