Obesity Rapidly Becoming Number One Global Killer of Children and Adults
Dr. Patricia Bragg Calls For Worldwide Health Action
SANTA BARBARA, Calif., Feb. 8, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- "The World Health Organization (WHO) calls worldwide obesity an epidemic, and I call it preventable," says Health Pioneer, Dr. Patricia Bragg, CEO of Bragg Live Food Products in Santa Barbara, California, a 104-year-old international organic health food company.
Dr. Bragg is calling for an immediate worldwide focus on obesity and for countries and organizations to highly accelerate education programs promoting healthy lifestyles. "2017 must be the year we make fitness 'cool,'" she says. "Every family in the world should be involved!"
Dr. Bragg, who was recently called "The Queen of Health," by singer Katy Perry during her visit with Dr. Patricia, has been a leading advocate of healthy living for more than 60 years. Her father, Dr. Paul C. Bragg, was the originator of health food stores in America in 1912. The company is internationally renowned for its healthy foods, especially the award-winning Bragg Organic Apple Cider Vinegar.
Nearly two billion people around the world are overweight, and more than 40 million children under the age of five are obese, according to new WHO studies. Obesity rates in every country have at least doubled in the past ten years and it has become one of the leading causes of death worldwide. Obesity is blamed for the skyrocketing rates of Type 2 Diabetes and is a leading contributor to cardiovascular diseases.
"Governments, organizations, schools and families must make fighting obesity a number one priority," says Dr. Bragg. "We must show that for adults, living a healthy lifestyle isn't difficult – it's exciting and fun! For kids, healthy lifestyles mean they get to live happier and stronger in a world where there are huge possibilities for success."
The WHO reported that nearly three million people die each year from being overweight. Lost production due to weight-related illness among workers worldwide costs companies and governments more than $1 trillion annually. Yet, as Dr. Bragg says, it is a completely preventable epidemic. Dr. Bragg also frequently sends vegetable seeds to poor communities around the world.
Dr. Bragg calls for all countries to be responsible and help make the resources and education available to their people so they can make the right choice for themselves and their children – the strong choice of health!
