Obeo Health Offers First Online Tool to Help Employees Manage Healthcare Finances
BURLINGAME, Calif., June 29, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Obeo Health announces the successful deployment of online tools that take the guesswork out of selecting health benefits. (click to Tweet) It then goes one step farther to offer the only service that helps employees manage healthcare finances year-round.
Companies who offer Obeo Health tools saw their employees gain greater health literacy to help them better capture the value in insurance offerings such as Consumer Directed Health Plans (CDHP).
When Progress introduced four plan options, including a CDHP with a health savings account (HSA), not only was the concept new to the workers but also the management team. Progress set out to enroll 10 percent of its staff in the HDHP.
Then they brought in Obeo Health's team to help educate employees about the new offerings and provide Obeo's tools to help employees better understand how each plan works and the cost-effectiveness of each.
"We nearly tripled our HDHP plan adoption with Obeo Health," said Kristen Jadul, Progress senior benefits manager.
Obeo analyzes past coverage information to forecast where the employee will spend money and ways they can save. It then creates a personalized plan recommendation.
Obeo's intuitive, engaging interface supports complex healthcare decisions. For most companies, open enrollment can fall at a busy time of year. So it's hard to get employees to take the time to review each plan.
"The Obeo tools helped our associates understand their annual costs by adding their premiums and out-of-pocket dollars together," said Karrie Andes, the senior benefits manager at PGi, another Obeo customer. "Obeo definitely improved transparency with plan selections because everyone could clearly see what their greatest expenses were."
By using Obeo Health tools, employees also become better healthcare consumers because they more easily understand what is offered.
"We have found that most people stick with the plan they have because they don't really want to deal with it. But with Obeo, it was different," said Jadul at Progress. "We just thought that was a huge success; people used this tool and thought it was valuable."
Over time, this education helps build the employee's confidence and helps them make the right choices; so lower cost plans such as consumer directed health plans will succeed for everyone.
