NEW YORK, Oct. 24, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- For the second year in a row, NYU Langone Medical Center, which includes Tisch Hospital and NYU Hospital for Joint Diseases (HJD), scored number one for overall patient safety and quality among 104 leading academic medical centers (AMCs) across the nation that were included in the University HealthSystem Consortium (UHC) 2014 Quality and Accountability Study. In addition, NYU Langone earned the 2014 UHC Quality Leadership Award for demonstrated excellence in high-priority patient care areas, achieved five stars for its overall performance, and ranked number one in the domains of equity and mortality.

This year, UHC introduced clinically reviewed infection measures submitted to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention's (CDC's) National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN) and new metrics on venous thromboembolism based on The Joint Commission's National Quality Core Measures.
