Laurence, and Iva Rukelj have joined the firm's intellectual property ("IP") team, resident in the New York City Office. The team comes to Scarinci Hollenbeck from W.R. Samuels Law PLLC, and further expands its growing New York/New Jersey intellectual property practice. Bill will chair the firm's newly formed Copyright and Trademark practice group.

Bringing on the former W.R. Samuels attorneys further expands Scarinci Hollenbeck's national and international footprint, as Bill Samuels and his team have had a presence in California for some years and their work extends globally.

The three new Scarinci Hollenbeck Attorneys are as follows:
William R. "Bill" Samuels, Partner, regularly works with clients to secure domestic and international trademark, copyright, and patent protections, to enforce and defend client rights, and to advise on commercializing intellectual property. He also concentrates on brand development and management, licensing, anti-counterfeiting issues, Internet matters, and more. He began his legal career in San Francisco, CA, as outside general counsel to various startup companies, advising them on intellectual property, business strategies, and general corporate matters. He then spent three years at a California IP boutique advising clients on trademarks, copyright, design and trade dress protection, anti-counterfeiting and customs enforcement, trade secrets and unfair competition, as well as global licensing regimes.
Since that time, Bill founded and managed premier IP boutique firm W.R. Samuels Law. His opinion has been published numerous times over the years, and he is a past articles editor for "New Matter," an intellectual property law journal. He is often requested as a guest speaker and serves as Chair of the NY State Bar IP Section Trademark Committee.
John C. Laurence, Associate, a registered U.S. Patent Attorney licensed to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), has prosecuted patents in various technologies including computer hardware and memory, circuit design, software, networking, wireless systems, video processing, financial instruments, business methods and Internet technologies. John has experience with patentability and infringement searches and opinions as well as with the Patent Trial and Appeal Board practice including drafting and submission of appeal and reply briefs. John has experience with trademark clearance, prosecution, investigation, routine enforcement and co-existence negotiation and agreement as well as with the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board practice including trademark Oppositions and Cancellations practice. John also has experience with negotiation and drafting of intellectual property agreements including assignments, licenses, terms of service, trade secret, and co-existence agreements.
Iva Rukelj, Associate, specializes in trademark, copyright, design, fashion and Internet law. Iva appears on behalf of clients in federal court and before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office's Trademark Trial and Appeal Board. Iva holds an LL.M. in Intellectual Property, and is an experienced EU and US attorney with a combined in-house and law firm exposure. While living in Europe she developed a passion for intellectual property law, serving as a general counsel to an advertising agency where her work centered on legal issues surrounding advertising and media law, copyright clearance, and trademark prosecution. Iva's US practice focuses on litigating complex commercial matters, including IP litigation.
