WHAT:
At press conference, the AFL-CIO Housing Investment Trust (HIT) will announce a partnership with the Building and Construction Trades Council of Greater New York and the New York City Central Labor Council, AFL-CIO to convene a coalition of unions, area religious institutions and developers known as the United Clergy Task Force (UCTF) to build $300 million in affordable housing, community centers and care facilities on sites located in the Metro area. The initial projects slated for development in the Bronx, Brooklyn, and Jersey City will utilize all union labor, and a robust apprenticeship program provided by the Consortium for Worker Education (CWE) that will train local community residents for jobs. Following the announcement, there will be refreshments and a carnival for kids.
