SAN FRANCISCO and SEOUL, South Korea, March 11, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- nWay, an independent San Francisco-based gaming startup, and Korean digital entertainment company CJ E&M Netmarble (130960:KS) have today announced an exclusive mobile publishing partnership for ChronoBlade, nWay's free-to-play multiplayer action RPG, in select regions. CJ E&M Netmarble will have exclusive publishing rights to the iOS and Android versions of ChronoBlade for three years in South Korea, Japan, Taiwan, Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and Northern Africa. Currently available on Facebook, the mobile version is under development and slated for global release later this year.
"Action RPG is the next big genre for mobiles games world wide. It has already started in Asia with CJ E&M's lead and will eventually proliferate across other regions," said Taehoon Kim, CEO and Co-founder of nWay. "Our partnership with CJ E&M Netmarble will help accelerate the success of action-oriented, real-time multiplayer games on mobile platforms world wide."
As Korea's top grossing mobile game company and top 3 publisher on Google Play world wide, CJ E&M Netmarble has successfully positioned itself as a global leader in mobile gaming with only one year in mobile game publishing. It counts Monster Taming, their first successful RPG on mobile, as a mega blockbuster hit among its library, recognized as one of the top grossing games on Google Play in 2013. The company has since quickly shifted its focus from casual to the mid-core/RPG genre on mobile and has capitalized on the massive 162% app revenue growth rate in Asia in 2013 through Google Play and messaging apps like Kakao and LINE.
"Our first action RPG, Monster Taming, was the number 3 top-grossing Android Google Play game worldwide in 2013 so we definitely see a great deal of potential in that genre," said Young Gi Cho, CEO, CJ E&M Netmarble. "We're happy about partnering with nWay, a studio with the technical expertise to strengthen our lead in the mid-core RPG genre on mobile. We'll work with them closely on ChronoBlade, which is slated to launch in the first half of this year, to ensure that it has the best chance for success."
ChronoBlade is a fast-paced and combo-driven action RPG currently in open beta and available to the public on Facebook. The game leverages nWay's proprietary back-end technology for a fast synchronous, co-operative, and competitive multiplayer experience across platforms. nWay's development team boasts experience working on major titles like Diablo II, Dungeon Fighter Online, Grand Theft Auto, and more.
