NVBDC announces Certification of Large Veteran Owned Business
WARREN, Mich., Oct. 17, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Today the NVBDC the only third party non-governmental organization (NGO) that Certifies Veteran Owned and Service Disabled Veteran Owned Businesses has broken the last deterrent for major America Corporations to contract with VOB/SDVOBs. Since 1999 when the federal government established the veteran owned and disabled veteran owned business classifications, veteran businesses have been seeking equal opportunities with corporate America. Nonetheless, they have been largely excluded from the corporate spend. The single most cited reason is that there is not a national certifying body that they can rely on to provide them legitimate veteran owned and operated companies.
"Although we truly appreciate the work the VA and the SBA has done to help VOBs and SDVOBs the real issue is by law they are restricted to certifying SMALL companies only. This limits the Corporations from being able to hire the larger VOB/SDVOBs that they need to be able to handle the volume and scale of business that a small company just can't deliver, but today we have overcome that issue" said Brigadier General Dick Miller, Executive Director of the NVBDC.
Upon being awarded his VOB Certification; Sid E. Taylor, Founder and Chairman of SET Enterprises, Inc and a United States Marine Corp and Vietnam Combat Veteran said: "we became the FIRST LARGE supplier to be certified by the NATIONAL VETERAN BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT COUNCIL (NVBDC). The NVBDC has been sanctioned by the Automotive sector and other business sectors to establish a certification process to certify qualified Veterans. This will allow companies like Ford Motor Company, General Motors, Lear, Chrysler, Honda, Toyota and others to count Veteran dollars and report them to the Federal government and receive credit. This is a BIG day for SET Enterprises!!!!"
"SET Enterprises is recognized as one of the largest and most successful African-American owned companies in America and was specifically named by several leading Automotive Corporations as one of their key suppliers that they wanted the NVBDC to Certify as a VOB" said NVBDC President Keith King
In a memo to his staff Mr. Taylor said: "Also find attached our OFFICIAL CERTIFICATE to be used in the same manner that we use our Minority Business certificate. I look forward to the NVBDC providing certifications to many other qualified Veterans in the future. Thank all of you for your hard work and contributions to this unique FIRST honor".
On behalf of all Veteran and Service Disabled Owned Businesses, small, medium or large we thank Kellogg's, GM, and the Veteran Support Foundation for being our Founding Sponsors and we look forward to adding other major Corporations to our list of sponsors and their acceptance of our Veteran Certification process.
