Nurse Practitioners Urge Congress to Ensure Stable Funding for Essential Health Care Programs
WASHINGTON, May 24, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- In response to President Trump's FY 2018 budget proposal, the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) released the following statement.
"While we continue to examine the President's budget, we are concerned with the proposed cuts to the Department of Health and Human Services which include cuts to the Medicaid program, the National Institutes of Health, and programs that invest in the nursing workforce, among others. These proposed cuts would ultimately impact patient access to high-quality health care. The future health care needs of our patients must be a critical factor as budgetary decisions are made," said AANP President Cindy Cooke, DNP, FNP-C, FAANP. "As this process continues, we implore all committees of jurisdiction and Members of Congress to reject these unnecessary and harmful cuts and instead work towards stable funding that empowers nurse practitioners and other health care professionals to meet the needs of patients across the nation."
