Numerex to Sponsor International Conference on M2M Standards

ATLANTA, April 29, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Numerex Corp (NASDAQ: NMRX), a leading provider of on-demand and interactive machine-to-machine (M2M) enterprise solutions, announced today that it will sponsor and play a leading role in an international conference on M2M standards, scheduled to be held at the Georgia Institute of Technology (Georgia Tech) on May 7, 2013. Dr. Jeffrey O. Smith, Chief Innovation and Technology Officer at Numerex, will lead the event as chairman of the M2M Standardization Task Force (MSTF), a forum from the Global Standards Collaboration, which is centered around the International Telecommunication Union, a specialized agency of the United Nations.
The internationally attended meeting will address a wide range of M2M and Internet of Things standardization initiatives including those within the open source community. Hosted by the Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA), and the Georgia Tech Research Institute (GTRI), the conference will include representatives from the International Telecommunication Union, the European Telecommunications Standards Institute, oneM2M Partnership, the Open Geospatial Consortium, the Weightless Standard Special Interest Group, and other open source-focused groups such as the Open Source Internet of Things (OSIOT) Silicon Valley Group, the Eclipse M2M Industry Working Group, OASIS (Organization for the Advancement of Structured Information Standards) and UC Berkeley's Open Wireless Sensor Networks project (OpenWSN).
As chairman of the MSTF, Dr. Smith's role is to facilitate the various standards organizations and open source groups working together to gain an understanding of their respective stance on the key issues. When insight is gained on the key differences and commonalities, the next steps to standardization implementation and international agreement can occur.
