Numerex Awarded Two New Communication Patents
Rapid and Impactful Innovation in M2M Technology Core to Numerex's Strategy
ATLANTA, Dec. 20, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Numerex Corp (NASDAQ: NMRX), a leading single source provider of secure machine-to-machine (M2M) products and services, announced today the issuance of two new U.S. patents, further solidifying the company's leadership in M2M innovation. In the fourth quarter of 2011, the United States Patent and Trademark Office granted Numerex two new patents. Patent number 8041383 enables a digital/analog management system for wireless customer premises equipment (CPE) while patent number 8060067 enables more efficient messaging over a data network. In addition to its significant licensing portfolio, Numerex has been granted a total of 52 patents for its M2M technology innovations.
"These two new patents are a further testament to Numerex's expertise and industry leadership. Our team of talented associates is relentlessly searching for advanced technologies that can help companies generate more revenue and operational efficiencies. Well over a million of users of the Numerex patented platform benefit from these technologies today. We aim to create innovative carrier-grade solutions for the M2M industry, consistently and reliably," said Dr. Jeff Smith, Numerex's Chief Technology Officer.
The digital upgrade system translates a command from analog to digital so that it can be broadcast over a wireless digital network. Alternatively, the system can translate a digital message to an analog command to be received by a functionality module of a wireless CPE Host.
The second patent applies to a Numerex-developed method for message delivery over a data network. After determining the communications protocol between two interacting communication devices, a telemetry gateway or short message arbitrator converts the message to a compatible data format. The telemetry gateway or short message arbitrator then forwards the message for receipt without requiring a store-and-forward process. For M2M applications, the physical manifestation of this patent, the Numerex Digital Gateway, allows the delivery of short messages to and from cellular devices very rapidly, providing near real-time feedback to customers as to the state of the message including confirmation that it was delivered, or, if not, the reason why it was not.
