Numerex at the Forefront of M2M Standards
Recent Individual Distinctions Confirm Numerex's M2M leadership
ATLANTA, Dec. 16, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Numerex Corp (Nasdaq: NMRX), a leading single source provider of secure machine-to-machine (M2M) products and services, announced today that Stratton J. Nicolaides, Chairman and CEO of Numerex was recently elected to the Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA) Board of Directors. Seated on TIA's Board are senior executives from leading technology companies who provide direction and guidance to the association.
TIA is the leading trade association representing manufacturers and suppliers of global communications networks through standards development, policy and advocacy, business opportunities, market intelligence, events and networking. TIA is accredited by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI). It also participates in international standards-setting activities, such as the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), the Inter-American Telecommunication Commission (CITEL) and the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC). TIA organizes major Information and Communications Technology (ICT) events focused on innovation and thought leadership such as TIA 2012 Inside the Network, a Conference & Exhibition scheduled for June 5-7 at the Gaylord Texan Hotel in Dallas, Texas.
TIA maintains a leadership position in emerging technologies, with a timely focus, of particular interest to Numerex, in the M2M arena.
"This election honors Numerex, and reflects well on our organization. I am proud to join a distinguished group of individuals with whom I am looking forward to contributing to TIA's growth and success," said Nicolaides. "Effective standards are critical to the growth of the M2M industry, and TIA is well positioned to accelerate the pace of global M2M standardization."
Numerex is already closely involved in TIA's work. Dr. Jeffrey O. Smith, CTO of Numerex, leads TIA's Smart Device Communications Engineering Committee (TR-50), which just released its Smart Device Communications Reference Architecture Standard addressing M2M technologies and markets. Dr. Smith is also the Chair of the Global Standards Collaboration's M2M Standardization Task Force (GSC MSTF) that was created in 2010 to facilitate global M2M coordination and harmonization. The GSC MSTF is hosted by TIA. On behalf of TIA, Numerex organized the latest GSC MSTF meeting in September 2011 at the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta.
"TIA is pleased to see members such as Numerex strengthen their commitment to the association and the ICT industry through executive involvement," said TIA President Grant Seiffert. "We thank Mr. Nicolaides and Dr. Smith for sharing their deep knowledge in developing new technologies that will create opportunities for our industry and help TIA member companies innovate and grow."
