Numerex Achieves ISO/IEC 27001:2005 Information Security Standard Re-Certification

ATLANTA, Feb. 1, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Numerex Corp. (Nasdaq: NMRX), a leading single source provider of secure machine-to-machine (M2M) products and services, today announced that it has completed the three-year full ISO/IEC-27001:2005 information security standard re-certification. More about ISO/IEC 27001:2005:
ISO/IEC 27001:2005 is an information security management system (ISMS) standard published in October 2005 by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC). It has become the gold standard in information security across a broad spectrum of markets. Over 7,000 organizations worldwide have already been certified against ISO/IEC 27001:2005 or equivalent national variants.
Moreover, ISO/IEC 27001:2005 specifies the methodology to enable a business to establish, implement, operate, monitor, review, maintain and improve effective information security. ISO/IEC 27001:2005 is aligned with other management standards, such as ISO 9001:2000 (Quality) and ISO 14001:2004 (environmental management). It also provides a helpful baseline to comply with the requirements mandated in Section 404 of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002.
ISO is the world's largest developer and publisher of international standards. It is a non-governmental network of national standards institutes of 163 countries, on the basis of one member per country, with a Central Secretariat in Geneva, Switzerland, that coordinates the system. IEC is a not-for-profit, non-governmental international standards organization, also headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland, that prepares and publishes International Standards for all electrical, electronic and related technologies.
The ISO 27001 standard process requires annual surveillance audits and a complete re-certification every three years.
