Commercial Questions Government Policy Of Issuing Work Permits To A Million New Legal Immigrants Each Year During Jobs Depression

WASHINGTON, Sept. 21, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- NumbersUSA will air a TV commercial during this Thursday's Republican Presidential debate on FOX News, asking Candidates to reduce legal immigration, if they are elected, so that more jobs are opened up for unemployed American workers. According to NumbersUSA, despite some of the highest unemployment rates since the Great Depression, Congress and President Obama continue to issue permanent work permits to more than one million new legal immigrants a year to enter the U.S. and take American jobs, despite some of the highest unemployment since the Great Depression.

"None of the candidates, thus far, has been willing to talk about moving illegal foreign workers back to their home countries," commented NumbersUSA President Roy Beck. "Surely, though, some candidates can show enough concern for 20 million Americans who can't find a full-time job that they will promise to reduce the flow of future immigrants so they won't further congest the long hiring lines."

Beck refers to the official "U-6" unemployment rate of the U.S. Labor Department that includes more than 20 million Americans who can't find a job of any kind or who have been forced to take part-time work. The TV commercial highlights the fact that the federal government of these unemployed Americans continues to make it harder to find a job by adding more than one million more legal immigrants each year.

The ad goes on to make the point that the immigration debate should not be about the color of people's skin, their religion or nation of origin, but should be about the number of jobless Americans, the number of available jobs and the number of new immigrants allowed into the U.S. workforce each year.

Separate studies by the Pew Hispanic Center and Northeastern University indicate that new immigrants are landing American jobs while Americans are losing jobs. The Northeastern University study said that while six million Americans lost jobs over the last two years, one million new immigrants landed jobs.
