NTEU President Kelley, Members of Congress to Lead Rally Supporting Federal Employees
WASHINGTON, March 1, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- National Treasury Employees Union (NTEU) President Colleen M. Kelley will lead hundreds of NTEU members from agencies across the government in a rally in support of federal employees at noon, on Wednesday, March 2, at the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C. Part of NTEU's annual Legislative Conference, the rally will be attended by hundreds of NTEU leaders from around the country. The theme of the Legislative Conference is "Proud to Work for America."
President Kelley will be joined at the rally by Senator Ben Cardin (D-Md.), Democratic Whip Steny Hoyer (D-Md.), Rep. Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-D.C.), Rep. Jim Moran (D-Va.), Rep. Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.), Rep. John Sarbanes (D-Md.), and Rep. Donna Edwards (D-Md.)
With a possible government shutdown looming, NTEU members will be meeting with their members of Congress this week as part of the Legislative Conference and rallying to let them and the public know that they provide valuable services to the country and that both a government shutdown and the severe, senseless budget cuts that passed the House will hurt the economy and those who rely on government services. NTEU members will also express support for state workers in Wisconsin, Ohio, Indiana, and elsewhere who are facing unprecedented attacks on their workplace rights.
