The NTD scholarship funds of $10,000 will be awarded by the James Beard Foundation and provide scholarships to two high school seniors who are from low-income families with a passion and aptitude to learn Chinese culinary arts.
"There are so many wonderful Chinese chefs in America today. I think it is great that NTD's scholarship is going to help underprivileged Chinese students who want to go to culinary school, pursue a culinary education and perhaps become a great American chef," said Susan Ungaro, president of the James Beard Foundation.
NTD Television's Fifth International Chinese Culinary Competition in Times Square on September 27th and 28th where chefs from around the world will gather to showcase all styles of authentic Chinese cooking, and NTD Television's Annual Benefit Gala, which takes place on September 27th during the Times Square competition, will benefit the James Beard Foundation NTD Chinese Culinary Scholarship for the underprivileged.
"It is so exciting for all of us at the James Beard Foundation that the Culinary Competition celebrating great authentic Chinese cooking is going to be in Times Square where everyone might experience what Chinese culture and Chinese culinary tradition are all about," said Ms. Ungaro.
"Part of the NTD Television mission is to promote the very best of Chinese culture," said Lijuan Nania, Vice President and Director of Global Competition Series, NTD Television.
"The scholarship and competition fosters education and cultural exchange, which is crucial to China as well as the rest of the world," she added.
