NSM Insurance Group Brings Active Shooter Training To Nonprofits

CONSHOHOCKEN, Pa., April 6, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- NSM Insurance Group's Retail Department held a free Active Shooter Training Seminar for nonprofits in the greater Philadelphia region on March 17 at the Union League of Philadelphia. More than 57 executives from area nonprofits attended the workshop led by Lt. Berchard V. Suber, a retired Pennsylvania State Police officer.

The workshop focused on recognizing threats in the workplace, planning the response to an active shooter on premises, setting up emergency action plans, defining individual responsibilities, and coordinating with local law enforcement.

Suber is a Philadelphia native and currently teaches criminal justice and leadership courses at the Valley Forge Military Academy. He also serves as a consultant for private security companies in the Philadelphia area. "Situational Awareness may sound like common sense but for many it is not. The focus [of the training] is on mindset, commitment to detail and environmental awareness," Suber explained.

"The training was very beneficial and reinforces that need for engaging all staff as part of your security. Environmental and situational awareness are critical each and every day," said Andrea Youndt, COO of YMCA of Greater Brandywine.
