ANN ARBOR, Mich., Jan. 11, 2018 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- In a move meant to more closely align its California-based DNA testing lab with NSF International's core scientific testing and research services, the global public health organization recently appointed Jesse Miller, Ph.D., to lead NSF AuthenTechnologies®. Dr. Miller, a molecular microbiologist with extensive experience in custom R&D services as well as primary research leading to peer-reviewed publication, currently serves as Director of Applied Research at NSF International.
By bringing NSF AuthenTechnologies® together with NSF International's core scientific research group, the organization is sending a clear message to the dietary supplement community. "We're aligning further with NSF's scientific processes and putting transparency at the forefront of what we do at NSF AuthenTechnologies®," said Dr. Lori Bestervelt, Executive Vice President and Chief Technical Officer at NSF International. "Dr. Miller is well respected in the scientific community and, with his DNA testing expertise, he's a great fit for this role."
Focused on the dietary supplement industry, NSF AuthenTechnologies® uses next-generation sequencing (NGS) technology for DNA authentication of raw materials and identification of ingredients in finished products. The lab also screens for contaminants, adulterants, allergens and fillers in supplement products.
Under Dr. Miller's leadership, NSF AuthenTechnologies® is expanding the range of services it provides and re-engineering many of its testing, customer service and reporting processes.
As Director of Applied Research, Dr. Miller leads NSF International's custom research and development services, including contract method development; testing and consulting services in chemistry, microbiology, genomics and toxicology; product claim verifications; lab quality management; methods training; and human health risk assessment.
Dr. Miller holds a Ph. D. in microbiology and immunology and has led NSF's applied research team since February 2016. He brings 16 years of experience in microbiology, molecular biology, next-generation sequencing, product commercialization and front-end innovation to the role. Dr. Miller works with collaborators to perform, publish and promote novel scientific research related to public health and safety issues. He has authored numerous publications and holds over a dozen patents (granted and applied). He invites connections on LinkedIn.
