NSBA Announces Finalists for Advocate of the Year Award
WASHINGTON, June 4, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- NSBA today announced the finalists for the 2014 Lewis Shattuck Small Business Advocate of the Year Award. The award winner will be announced during NSBA's Annual Advocate of the Year Award Luncheon on Monday, June 23 at 11:00 a.m., which is the kick-off event for the NSBA Washington Presentation on June 23 and 24.
"Despite the many challenges of running and maintaining a business, these five small-business owners have made extraordinary efforts to get involved and advocate on behalf of all small businesses," stated NSBA President Todd McCracken. "Their ongoing efforts have made a positive impact on America's small-business community."
NSBA is honoring the following small-business owners for their excellence in advocating on small-business issues:
- Keith Ashmus of the law firm Frantz Ward in Cleveland, Ohio;
- Alison Brown of high-tech firm NAVSYS Corp in Colorado Springs, Colo.;
- Denise Burgess of Burgess Services, an engineering and construction business in Denver, Colo.;
- Michael Janeway of engineering services firm APG Technologies in Potomac Falls, Va.; and
- Brian Stein of S&S Intersource, a refractory business serving the steel industry in Mars, Pa.
"A business owner myself, I know how challenging it is to balance business and volunteer activities," stated NSBA Chair Jeff Van Winkle of Clark Hill in Grand Rapids, Michigan. "I am honored to recognize such a distinguished pool of business owners."
Among the key criteria used in determining award finalists is a commitment to small-business advocacy above and beyond policies that specifically impact their own business or industry, as well as a broad scope of volunteer efforts to advance and improve the overall small-business community.
Celebrating more than 75 years in operation, NSBA is a staunchly nonpartisan organization advocating on behalf of America's entrepreneurs. NSBA's 65,000 members represent every state and every industry in the U.S., and we are proud to be the nation's first small-business advocacy organization.
