NRMP Board of Directors Welcomes New Members

WASHINGTON, June 20, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- At its May 2017 meeting, the National Resident Matching Program® (NRMP®) Board of Directors elected Drs. Keith Armitage, Zaid Almarzooq, Jessica Fried, and Elliott Kozin, and Ms. Mallika Sabharwal to seats on the Board.

Keith Armitage, M.D., is Professor of Medicine and Vice Chair for Education of the Department of Medicine at Case Western Reserve University. He earned his M.D. from the University of Colorado School of Medicine and completed his Internal Medicine and Infectious Diseases training at University Hospitals Case Medical Center. He has been director of the Internal Medicine residency program at Case for more than 23 years.  A leader in the graduate medical education community, Dr. Armitage has served as President of the Association of Program Directors in Internal Medicine and Chair of the Organization of Program Director Associations. In 2002, he received the prestigious Parker Palmer "Courage to Teach" award from the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education, and in 2012 was recognized with a Master Clinical Educator Award from the Case Western Reserve University Department of Medicine

Zaid Almarzooq, M.B.B.Ch., is a resident in the Department of Medicine at New York Presbyterian Hospital - Weill Cornell Medical Center. He graduated salutatorian from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI), where he also served as Captain of the RCSI equestrian team. In 2016, he was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society and recognized as Resident of the Year by Weill Cornell Medical College. Dr. Almarzooq will serve as Chief Resident for the 2017-2018 training year before entering a Cardiovascular Disease fellowship.

Jessica Fried, M.D., is a resident in the Diagnostic Radiology program at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. She earned her M.D. from Dartmouth Geisel School of Medicine, where she served on the editorial board for Dartmouth Medicine Magazine. Dr. Fried is a past Chair of the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) Organization of Student Representatives Advisory Board, and she was a member of the AAMC Advisory Panel on the Future of Graduate Medical Education. Since 2016, she has served on the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania's Department of Radiology Program Evaluation Committee as well as the National Academy of Medicine's Action Collaborative on Physician Well-Being and Resilience.

Elliott Kozin, M.D., is a resident at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Program in Otolaryngology at Harvard Medical School. He earned his M.D. from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, and while a medical student served in several research roles with the National Institutes of Health. He is a member of the Residency Selection Committee in the Otolaryngology program at Harvard and has authored papers and conducted presentations on factors affecting residency education and training.

Maliika Sabharwal is a second-year student at the University of Louisville School of Medicine. She graduated from the University of Florida with a Bachelor's Degree in Applied Physiology and Kinesiology and a minor in French. Before entering medical school, she worked as a Public Health Associate in the Chicago Department of Public Health for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. She is the Community and Public Health Action Committee Chair for the American Medical Student Association and is President of the Students for a National Health Program chapter at the University of Louisville.

Terms of service commence July 1.
