NPRA Welcomes CFATS Extension

WASHINGTON, May 26, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Charles T. Drevna, president of NPRA, the National Petrochemical & Refiners Association, issued the following statement welcoming action by the House Energy and Commerce Committee today approving legislation that extends the current Chemical Facility Anti-Terrorism Standards program into 2018.

"The bipartisan committee vote today is an important step forward in the effort to make the Chemical Facility Anti-Terrorism Standards program permanent. The existing program provides for a sound, responsible and highly effective chemical facility security policy that helps protect our nation against terrorist attacks. Making significant changes to the program could weaken the high level of security that has already been established at chemical facilities.

"NPRA strongly supports the amendment approved by the committee to allow the Transportation Worker Identification Credential cards as sufficient identification for CFATS facilities. We have long advocated for reciprocity of other federal chemical security credentials. We commend the committee for adopting this amendment on a bipartisan basis.
