NPRA Supports Bipartisan Congressional Letter to EPA on E15
WASHINGTON, July 29 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Charles T. Drevna, president of NPRA, the National Petrochemical & Refiners Association, today issued a statement in response to a letter sent by four members of Congress to Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Lisa Jackson dealing with ethanol in gasoline.
In the letter, Congressmen Henry A. Waxman, Edward J. Markey, Joe Barton and Fred Upton request information to "ensure that increasing the permissible level of ethanol in gasoline is accomplished in a way that does not present any potential harm to air quality, consumers' investments in cars, trucks, and other engines and equipment, or small business owners' investments in gas stations."
Drevna's statement:
"Congressmen Waxman, Markey, Barton and Upton are acting in the best interests of every American who owns a motor vehicle or gasoline-powered equipment by raising vital questions that should be answered before a decision is made on increasing the amount of ethanol in gasoline.
"While some in the ethanol industry are telling us all to pump first and ask questions later, our government has an obligation to protect consumers and first get answers to the questions the Congressmen have raised. Only comprehensive and objective scientific testing can give us an accurate picture of the impact of more ethanol in gasoline. Until that testing can be completed and thoroughly analyzed, we urge EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson to take no action on increasing the amount of ethanol in gasoline.
"Our government should not allow a giant science experiment to be conducted on the vehicles and equipment in just about every American household."
