NPLEx Achieving Significant Results in 2014

LUTHERVILLE, Md., Aug. 12, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- The National Association of Drug Diversion Investigators (NADDI) – a nonprofit organization that facilitates cooperation between law enforcement, healthcare professionals, state regulatory agencies and pharmaceutical manufacturers in the prevention and investigation of drug diversion lauded the latest National Precursor Log Exchange (NPLEx) results. NPLEx reported January through July results that were achieved by the real-time, stop-sale system created and maintained by Appriss, Inc. The report suggests movement in the right direction.

Overall, throughout the NPLEx states, there is a downward trend of fewer grams tracked and or blocked and also fewer people buying over-the-counter pseudoephedrine and ephedrine (PSE/EPH) medication.

NADDI Executive Director Charles Cichon states that, "These statistics indicate the importance of real-time electronic tracking performed by NPLEx. None of these attempted illegal transactions would have been prevented without the NPLEx system. The amount of methamphetamine that could have been made with these blocked precursors is staggering, and reinforces the vital use of NPLEx to prevent the illicit diversion of these extremely beneficial medicines."

The breakdown by state in the report shows the total number of boxes reported as purchased, the total number of grams reported as purchased, the total number of boxes and grams that were blocked based on state and federal laws, and the total number of unique individuals reported as purchasing over-the-counter PSE/EPH.
