WASHINGTON, July 9, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- With popular support for USA Soccer at an all-time high and the World Cup semi-final and final matches set for this weekend, World Cup Soccer fever is sweeping the nation. Veteran sports events manager Bill Knight will offer some predictions and perspective on Brazil's success with the 2014 games – and discuss Washington DC's Olympic bid and the biggest multi-sport event to hit the DC metro area – at a National Press Club Newsmakers news conference on Friday, July 11.
Knight served for three years as Vice President of Venues for World Cup Soccer, managing nine venues across the U.S. He was also General Manager of Venues for the Atlanta Olympics and Vice President of Business Operations for the Super Bowl 34 Host Committee.
Today, Knight is CEO of World Police & Fire Games (www.fairfax2015.com) – the largest international multi-sport competition involving law enforcement and fire fighters – which will be held in Fairfax, VA in the summer of 2015. Last year, the games were held in Belfast, Northern Ireland. Fairfax 2015 will draw over 12,000 athletes from around the world, competing in some 60 Olympic-style and public safety-specific sports. Fairfax 2015 is expected to generate over $80 million in direct and indirect economic benefit to the National Capital Region.
