WASHINGTON, Nov. 10, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Oleg Mahnitskyi, senior advisor to President Petro Poroshenko, is bringing the new Ukraine administration's quest for the recovery of stolen and corrupt assets to Washington, DC, where he will consult with the U.S. Attorney General's office and experts at the World Bank. Mahnitskyi will discuss those efforts – as well as the importance of legal and political reforms in Ukraine and the ongoing formation of the new government there – at a National Press Club Newsmakers news conference on Friday, November 14, at 3 p.m. in the club's Zenger Room.
Mahnitskyi is a well known politician and lawyer who acted as a spokesman for, and led volunteer legal support to, the mass protests in 2013 and 2014 known as the Euromaidan movement against corruption in support of Ukraine's eurointegration. He is a member of his country's High Council of Justice, a former Ukraine Attorney General and a former parliament member.
As Attorney General, he prosecuted former Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych on charges of mass killings of Euromaidan protestors. He placed Yanukovych and members of his government on Ukraine's most wanted list and asked Russia to extradite them. He represents the Ukrainian authorities in close cooperation with International Advisory Panel of the Council of Europe in investigating the Yanukovych's regime's crimes.
In April, Mahnitskyi organized the Ukraine Forum on Asset Recovery in London, a high-level conference involving more than 30 countries, to foster international cooperation for the early tracing and freezing of assets stolen by Yanukovych's regime.
This Newsmakers news conference is scheduled for Friday, November 14 at 3 p.m. in the National Press Club's Zenger Room, on the 13th floor of the National Press Building, 529 14th St. NW, Washington DC 20045.
Like all Newsmakers events, this news conference is free and open to credentialed media and National Press Club members. No advance registration is required.
