WASHINGTON, July 15, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-California) will announce plans to repeal the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) at a National Press Club Newsmakers news conference, 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 19, 2011 in the National Press Building, 529 14th St., NW, Washington, D.C. She will be joined by the Courage Campaign Founder and Chair Rick Jacobs and three same-sex married couples. The Courage Campaign is an online organizing network for progressive change and full equality in California and across the country.

Gay couples in D.C., New York, and elsewhere now have the right to legally marry. However, same-sex married couples are barred from federal rights and privileges afforded to straight married couples. Passage of "The Respect for Marriage Act," introduced by Sen. Feinstein, as a bill to repeal DOMA, will be the focus of a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing on Wed., July 20th.
