After the Newtown massacre last December, many expected some progress at the national level on efforts to reduce gun violence. In April, however, the U.S. Senate failed to advance any legislation on guns. Even with the recent shootings at the Washington Navy Yard, most now see little chance for change on this issue. Helmke will discuss some specific proposals intended to break the impasse on this controversial issue.
This National Press Club Newsmaker event is scheduled for Friday, October 18 at 2 pm in the club's Zenger Room on the 13th Floor of the National Press Building at 529 14th Street NW, Washington, DC 20045.
