WASHINGTON, Jan. 4, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Newly reported data required by the Clery Act indicate that the annual statistics collected by colleges and universities still do not tell the full story of sexual violence on campus. More than one in five college women report experiencing physical abuse, stalking, sexual abuse, or threats of physical violence at the hands of an intimate partner.
At a National Press Club Newsmakers news conference on January 14 in the Club's Bloomberg Room, Lisa Maatz and Anne Hedgepeth will provide details of an American Association of University Women's analysis of recent federal data that shows disturbing trends related to sexual violence on campus.
Additionally, the two speakers will discuss the accuracy of a report released by the U.S. Department of Education that shows 91 percent of college campuses reported zero incidents of rape in 2014.
Ms. Maatz and Ms. Hedgepeth also will outline legislative remedies and programs that can improve the current climate on college campuses while ensuring the safety of students everywhere.
This Newsmakers news conference is scheduled for Thursday, January 14 at 10 a.m. in the club's Bloomberg Room, on the 13th Floor of the National Press Building at 529 14th St., NW, Washington, D.C.
Like all Newsmaker events, this news conference is free and is open to credentialed media and press club members. No advance registration is required.
