Cummings, Ranking Member of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee and former Chairman of the Congressional Black Caucus, is a prime sponsor of bipartisan legislation on gun trafficking legislation, which now has 100 cosponsors. Cummings takes the gun safety issue personally – his 20-year-old nephew was murdered by gunshot in a random act of violence.
Despite projections of prompt congressional action after the December 2012 massacre of 26 people in Newton, CT, neither chamber has moved to final passage. Cummings will discuss the state of congressional action and substance of the gun trafficking legislation as well as other pending bills.
Cummings represents Maryland's 7th district including Baltimore City, Baltimore County and Howard County.
