WOOSTER, Ohio, Oct. 15, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Less than a year after unveiling a 60 million USD expansion of its Wooster, Ohio, manufacturing operations, global industrial and automotive supplier Schaeffler is once again growing in Northeast Ohio. The Herzogenaurach, Germany-based technology company will be adding almost 21,000 sq. ft. of manufacturing space to its Wooster production facility, with the expansion dedicated to a variety of machining and final assembly operations for automotive powertrain components. In addition to serving as the company's global center of competence for its torque converter product line, the Wooster site is the leading facility for the development and production of Schaeffler's E-Mobility solutions in the United States.
Over 40 Years of Growth and Innovation in Wooster
Schaeffler's manufacturing success story in Wooster began with just six employees assembling clutches for the Plymouth Horizon/Dodge Omni compact cars in 1977. A mere three years later, the company began its pioneering efforts to develop the most capable workforce in the Buckeye State by inaugurating its Tool & Die Apprenticeship Program in Wooster. Today, Schaeffler's apprenticeship program in Wooster is the largest of its kind in Ohio. This remarkable pace of growth is also reflected in the size and scope of the facility itself: Since 1977, Schaeffler has expanded the Wooster manufacturing campus 20 times, growing from 27,000 sq. ft. to over 800,000 sq. ft. What began as a team of six hardworking clutch assemblers has evolved into a peerless team of approximately 2,000 highly skilled employees driven by the electrification of the automotive powertrain and a dedication to help shape the future of mobility.

Welcoming Schaeffler's Workforce of Tomorrow to Manufacturing Day 2018
Along with placing a dynamic focus on hiring new associates who can add value to the company's manufacturing operations right now, Schaeffler is also looking to attract the next generation of America's manufacturing talent. As part of its Manufacturing Day celebration on Oct. 5, the Wooster facility hosted over 130 students from area high schools and local community colleges to educate and inform them about the opportunities and rewards offered by choosing a career in manufacturing at Schaeffler.
"By being inside our facility," said Schaeffler Group Training Leader Carrie McKelvey, "the students got a firsthand look at how we design and patent our ideas as well as how we use cutting-edge technology to make our products. They saw the passion in our employees, along with lots of "cool" robots, CNC machines and brand-new automated manufacturing lines. We hope they will remember Schaeffler as a place they want to work!" Manufacturing careers offer unlimited potential, and the visiting students learned they can start their career after completing their junior year in high school or immediately following graduation.
