Novo Nordisk takes diabetes screening and education to the streets of Philadelphia with the Diabetes Living Room
PLAINSBORO, N.J., Nov. 12, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Novo Nordisk today announced the debut of the Diabetes Living Room, a community-based diabetes awareness, screening, and education program that will take place in Philadelphia on November 12 to 14, 2014. In Philadelphia, 655,818 people are living with diabetes and Novo Nordisk has teamed up with Independence Blue Cross of Philadelphia, the American Diabetes Association (ADA) and the Philadelphia Union soccer team to educate the city of Philadelphia about the importance of proper education and timely screening for diabetes.
The three-day event, timed to coincide with World Diabetes Day on November 14, will be located at Whitman Plaza in South Philadelphia at the corner of Oregon Avenue at South 3rd Street from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., rain or shine. Diabetes Living Room visitors will receive a variety of tools and resources to help manage their diabetes, including:
- Risk assessments and screenings
- Diabetes-friendly cooking demonstrations with celebrity chefs
- Healthy eating information and meal planning
- Educational materials on diabetes management
- Information from the Philadelphia ADA
- Insurance information from Independence Blue Cross
- Information about Novo Nordisk diabetes products
Basketball Hall of Famer Dominique Wilkins will attend the Diabetes Living Room on November 13 at 1 p.m. to tell the story about how he was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and encourage everyone to get screened.

Both chefs will be accompanied by diabetes educational sessions sponsored by Cornerstones4Care®. Patients will have the opportunity to sign up for Cornerstones4Care® at the event.
