Novo Nordisk Announces Winner of Race with Insulin® "Pit Crew" Sweepstakes
PLAINSBORO, N.J., Oct. 23, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Novo Nordisk, a world leader in diabetes care announced that Richard A. from Fresno, California is the winner of the Race with Insulin® "pit crew" sweepstakes. The sweepstakes launched in April and asked people to support IZOD IndyCar Series driver Charlie Kimball by encouraging their friends and family to join the Race with Insulin® crew.
The Race with Insulin® "pit crew" sweepstakes sought to recognize those who provide support, including the family, friends, co-workers and health care professionals who assist patients in managing their diabetes.
"I could not compete without my crew who help me manage my car and my diabetes," said Kimball. "This contest puts the spotlight on everyone who supports people with diabetes, including family and friends who are so critical when it comes to day-to-day diabetes management."
As the first licensed driver with diabetes to win a Series race, Kimball strategized with his doctor and his team to create some innovative solutions for keeping him safe and healthy on the track. Along with diet, exercise and the support of his crew, Charlie uses a prefilled insulin pen and a continuous glucose monitor to help manage his blood sugar before and during races, so that while he's in the car, he can focus on driving.
Since the sweepstakes launched, more than 3,160 entries have been received. Grand prize winner, Richard A. and two friends joined Kimball's crew for a trip to Southern California for the IndyCar World Championship on October 19, 2013.
As part of the sweepstakes, ten first prize winners also received an autographed Charlie Kimball Official die cast of Kimball's car. The winners were selected in a random drawing in September.
