November Is Long-Term Care Awareness Month in Michigan
BRIGHTON, Mich., Nov. 1, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- While some 70 percent of people over age 65 will require some type of long-term care during their lifetime, most people have little to no knowledge of the significant impact the demands of long-term care can have on their lives. November is Long-Term Care Awareness Month in Michigan in order to promote awareness of the care needed by individuals who need ongoing assistance with daily living activities due to a physical or cognitive disorder.
"Unfortunately, most people underestimate the need to plan ahead and only begin exploring long-term care solutions when care is needed," said Lisa Wendt, president and CEO of LifeSecure Insurance Company. "If they're not prepared, the demands can overwhelm families and take a major toll on their physical, emotional and financial health. Long-Term Care Awareness Month is a great opportunity for families to have a conversation about their future long-term care options and learn about products and services that can help them prepare for their later years."
Since 2007, LifeSecure has worked with the Governor's Office to designate November as Long-Term Care Awareness Month. By supporting Long-Term Care Awareness Month once again, LifeSecure is continuing its mission to advocate for proper long-term care planning and the importance of finding solutions that work best for families.
It's important for individuals to recognize that they will be responsible for their long-term care needs. Many families often fail to realize that government programs like Medicare and Medicaid will not fully meet their long-term care needs. As baby boomers continue to age, the need for long-term care will soon reach unprecedented levels. The U.S. Census Bureau projects that Michigan's population of individuals age 65 and older will increase by nearly 70 percent to more than 2 million by 2030.
