Novation to Offer Invuity® Products to 65,000 Member Hospitals and Affiliates
Group Purchasing Agreement Optimizes Invuity's Sales Force to Support Rapid Multi-Specialty Adoption of Eigr™ Illumination Technology
SAN FRANCISCO, April 18, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Invuity®, a leading developer of advanced visualization devices to optimize minimal access and minimally invasive surgeries, has entered into a three year agreement with leading health care supply chain and contracting company Novation for Invuity's complete product portfolio. Under the terms of the agreement, Invuity products will be offered to more than 65,000 members and affiliates of VHA Inc., UHC, Children's Hospital Association and Provista, all served by Novation.
Invuity's products utilize the company's proprietary Eigr™ (pronounced eye-gr) illumination technology -- brilliant, cool light that virtually eliminates shadows, glare and thermal hazards during surgical procedures. The agreement, effective as of April 1, 2013, includes the Eikon™, Eivector™, Taylor, and ISTR retractors, as well as the Eigr Saber hand-held illumination product family. These surgical tools are used by doctors in a variety of procedures, including spinal, orthopedic, thyroid, breast, plastic and general surgeries.
The Invuity agreement was awarded through Novation's innovative technology evaluation process. Novation's Innovative Technology Program allows the organization to work with member clinician councils to identify new or innovative technology that provides an incremental clinical benefit over existing products.
"As Invuity's portfolio of visualization products grows, group purchasing organizations like Novation are critical to our ability to reach a diverse group of institutions and make Eigr illumination technology widely accessible to physicians," said Philip Sawyer, CEO of Invuity. "In particular, this agreement bolsters our work to bring our products to multiple specialties in academic medical centers -- institutions which fill a valuable and important role in health care."
Doctors report that Eigr illumination technology enables procedures that were previously challenging to perform, such as skin-sparing and nipple-sparing breast cancer surgeries. "Eigr illumination technology enables me to do what I do when performing nipple sparing mastectomies and oncoplastic breast conservation procedures. It makes all the difference," said Dr. Sunny Mitchell, Director of Breast Surgery at White Plains Hospital and Principal Investigator and Chair of the Nipple Sparing Mastectomy Registry for the American Society of Breast Surgeons.
