CHAMPAIGN, Ill., May 23, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- On the former Home Town Buffet location at 2306 N. Prospect Ave, a new 9,000 sf Portillo's opened today (Tuesday, May 23rd at 10:30 a.m.) with a ribbon-cutting ceremony led by Dick Portillo and Champaign Mayor, Deborah Frank Feinen.
This 1.5 acre site included demolition of an existing building, new site utilities, concrete paving, and full site improvements. This new Portillo's is a precast structure with brick accents, exterior patio, dual drive-through, architectural steel elements and a theme that highlights a 1950s diner with décor throughout that recognizes the nearby historic Chanute Air Force Base. It will seat over 200 guests and will open with approximately 150 new employees. Novak's Restaurant Division VP and Portillo's Project Director, Dan Moriarity, noted, "We are honored to be included on the Portillo's team once again and assist in bringing new jobs to Champaign, IL."
In addition to Moriarity, Novak Construction was represented by Owner, John G. Novak; CFO, Michael Kanzler; and project team members, Kelly Curry and Maddie Novak.
Construction is currently underway on two other Novak Construction-Portillo's projects, slated for Summer openings: Woodbury, MN (July 2017), Normal, IL (August 2017).
