NOVA IDs New Career Opportunities
ALEXANDRIA, Va., Sept. 2 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Good jobs can be scarce during an economic downturn, but Northern Virginia Community College (NOVA) continues to identify new career opportunities for area residents as part of its Workforce Development Program. Among the latest examples is the field of community association management.
The Loudoun and Manassas campuses of NOVA are partnering with Community Associations Institute (CAI) to offer The Essentials of Community Association Management, a course that can be used as a springboard for a career in this growing profession. The courses will be held at the NOVA campuses during the fall.
There are an estimated 305,000 homeowner and condominium associations in the United States today, including countless thousands in Virginia and the greater Mid-Atlantic region. Nationally, about 60,000 community managers are employed by associations and association management companies, according to CAI.
Virginia recently adopted a licensure requirement for association management professionals. The Essentials course, or M-100, is approved as one of the courses for the licensure program.
The M-100 covers a wide range of topics, including the roles and responsibilities of managers, the association board and committees; legal documents and statutes; professional ethics, community rules enforcement; assessment collections; risk management and insurance.
"NOVA is pleased to offer this new program to CAI and our Northern Virginia neighbors," said William Gary, vice president for Workforce Development at NOVA. "It supports communities by laying the foundation for a cadre of professionally trained association managers to oversee the business side of neighborhood life. It also provides new opportunities to individuals who may be looking for a different career path in this tough economy."
The Loudoun campus will hold the M-100 on September 25 and 26, October 2 and 3 and December 4, 5, 11 and 12. The Manassas campus will hold the course November 6, 7, 13 and 14.
