Norwegian Cruise Line Selects Agilysys DataMagine™ Solution
Document Management System Streamlines Operations on Newest and Largest Ship
CLEVELAND, March 13, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Agilysys, Inc. (Nasdaq: AGYS), a leading provider of innovative information technology and hospitality software solutions, today announced that Norwegian Cruise Line, headquartered in Miami, has selected the Agilysys DataMagine™ document management solution to streamline operations on its newest and largest ship, Norwegian Epic. The solution is being used to speed registration and check-in/check-out processes for the ship's 'Kid's Crew' and 'Teen's Crew' programs and to electronically capture and store guest activity waivers.
"We needed technology that would maximize efficiency and eliminate long lines," said Norwegian Cruise Line Vice President of IT Infrastructure and Operations Jeff McVay. "The Agilysys DataMagine solution enables us to speed the registration process, track activities and store electronic waivers and other documentation for safety and legal purposes. On the first day of a recent cruise, we registered more than 950 participants in our youth activity programs -- with no waiting. The solution is also paperless, so it saves money and helps protect the environment."
The Agilysys DataMagine solution is a comprehensive document management system that scans, indexes and retrieves documents and computer reports for emailing, faxing or printing. It holds a U.S. patent for its unique ability to integrate scanned images and system-generated reports into departmental or enterprise business applications, usually without writing or changing a single line of code. The solution's Signature Capture Module, which works with both wired and wireless devices, enables customers to eliminate printing and storage of paper documents, such as registration cards, point-of-sale receipts and waivers. Other features include individual permission levels for security, instant data delivery and electronic document routing.
On board Norwegian Epic, the Agilysys DataMagine solution enables staff to remotely register children and teens in the ship's youth activity programs using the system's tablet-based electronic registration application. Parental signatures, medical information and other data required for registration are archived as PDF files. Wristband labels are printed with pertinent information, such as age group, allergies and muster station. The solution, which is integrated with the ship's property management system, matches photos of the children and teens who are participating in the programs with photos of the adults designated to pick them up in order to ensure safety. The PDF forms are readily available in cases of emergency, and reports can be created to track the activities of each participant. The Agilysys DataMagine solution is also used to capture and store the electronic waivers required for on-board activities, such as rappelling and rock wall climbing.
"In the highly competitive cruise line industry, customers need technology that enables them to maximize efficiency and outperform the competition," said Jim Dennedy, president and chief executive officer of Agilysys. "Our DataMagine solution not only streamlines the registration and check-in/check-out processes for youth programs on Norwegian Epic, but also provides an archived record of liability waivers. Best of all, the system eliminates long waits in line and creates a more enjoyable guest experience."
Norwegian Cruise Line has a 54-year history of breaking the boundaries of traditional cruising, most notably with the introduction of Freestyle Cruising®, which has revolutionized the industry by allowing guests more freedom and flexibility. Today, Norwegian has 11 purpose-built Freestyle Cruise ships, providing guests with the opportunity to enjoy relaxed vacations on some of the newest and most contemporary ships at sea. Norwegian Cruise Line is the official cruise line of Blue Man Group, Legends in Concert, Second City Comedy Troupe, Howl at the Moon Piano Show, Gibson Guitar and Nickelodeon. Norwegian's largest and most innovative ship, Norwegian Epic, debuted in June 2010. The company has two 4,000-passenger vessels, Norwegian Breakaway and Norwegian Getaway, on order for delivery in April 2013 and April 2014.
