Norwegian Air Shuttle Selects Pratt & Whitney PurePower® PW1100G-JM Engines to Power Airbus A320neo Family Aircraft
PARIS, June 19, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- PARIS AIR SHOW – Pratt & Whitney and Norwegian Air Shuttle signed a definitive agreement to power 50 firm Airbus A320neo family aircraft with PurePower PW1100G-JM engines. First delivery is scheduled for 2016. Pratt & Whitney is a United Technologies Corp. (NYSE:UTX) company.
"We chose the PurePower engine because everyone should be able to afford to fly and the benefits this engine delivers will allow us to offer the most affordable prices at the highest quality," said Asgeir Nyseth, COO, Norwegian Air Shuttle. "Keeping our operating costs low is one way we deliver more competitive fares to our customers, and we believe the savings in maintenance and fuel burn we'll receive from this engine can be parleyed to our customers."
"Pratt & Whitney is happy to be chosen by Norwegian to power their fleet of A320neos," said Todd Kallman, president, Pratt & Whitney Commercial Engines. "We look forward to providing the kind of savings in operating costs that will allow Norwegian to continue offering competitive and affordable airfare."
Each Norwegian Air Shuttle jet will be powered by two PurePower engines. Pratt & Whitney has announced orders for more than 3,500 engines that include announced and unannounced firm orders, plus options. The PurePower family of engines uses an advanced gear system allowing the engine's fan to operate at a different speed than the low-pressure compressor and turbine. The combination of the gear system and an all-new advanced core deliver the improvements in fuel efficiency, environmental emissions and noise.
