Northwestern Medicine® Lake Forest Receives Nancy L. Hughes Home as Gift for New Hospital Campaign
Famed late director's widow donates Hughes' 11,233 square foot English Tudor Estate
LAKE FOREST, Ill., Oct. 27, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Northwestern Lake Forest Hospital today announced that it has received the Lake Forest home of Nancy L. Hughes, widow of the late John Hughes as a charitable gift toward the development of the new hospital, scheduled to open in 2017. John Hughes was widely known for such 80s blockbusters as the Breakfast Club, Ferris Bueller's Day Off and the Home Alone franchise. His widow, Nancy Hughes is contributing the 11,233 square foot home and surrounding two-acre property to Lake Forest Hospital to help in the development of the new replacement hospital, which, to date, is the largest economic development project in Lake Forest history.
"John loved the beauty of Lake Forest; I love Lake Forest," said Nancy Hughes. "So when the opportunity to help advance the hospital presented, it was an easy decision to make. Lake Forest Hospital serves such an important role in this community. Having a state-of-the-art healthcare facility close to home for residents and citizens of neighboring towns improves the health of the community, and I'm thrilled to be part of that legacy."
The new Lake Forest Hospital will be a destination for health, wellness and civic enjoyment. The enhanced hospital campus will provide patients with access to quality care, medical experts and exceptional service as well as a seamless pathway to Northwestern Medicine specialty care. The thoughtful design of the 160-acre campus integrates medical care with health and wellness through walking and biking trails as well as a new common area for community activity and enjoyment. Lake Forest Hospital is in the early stages of its philanthropic campaign to support the project.
"We are very grateful for this generous gift from Mrs. Nancy Hughes," said Thomas J. McAfee, president of Lake Forest Hospital. "It's because of the support of partners like Mrs. Hughes that we are able to bring health innovation, advanced medical research and quality patient care to our community and Chicago's north region."
Proceeds from the eventual sale of the home will benefit the development of the new hospital, which will include prominent recognition of Nancy and John Hughes.
The Hughes home is located within one block of Lake Michigan in the historic district of east Lake Forest. Historic presence and exquisite detail encompass this Edwin Hill Clark designed home. This estate includes seven bedrooms, six full bathrooms, four half baths, a library, dining and living rooms, garden room, family room, office suite and three-car garage. There are also six fireplaces, a swimming pool, four bluestone terraces and two acres of landscaped grounds.
