Northwestern Medicine Central DuPage Hospital Receives Top Evaluation for Intensive Care Services
Only Hospital in Western Suburbs to Receive Gold, One of 16 Critical Care Units in the US
WINFIELD, Ill., May 19, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Patients, and their families, who find themselves in the intensive care units (ICUs) at Northwestern Medicine Central DuPage Hospital (CDH) can rest assured they are receiving the best care in the western suburbs, according to the American Association of Critical Care Nurses.
The nursing group recently announced that the intensive care units at CDH have received the gold designation of the association's Beacon Award of Excellence. CDH is the only hospital in Chicago's western suburbs and one of 16 critical care units in the country to receive the designation.
"I am in awe of the tremendous hard work that our nurses perform every day, the professionalism they bring to their duties and the overall effort made to ensure that patients at CDH receive the best care possible," said Brian Lemon, President, Northwestern Medicine Central DuPage Hospital.
The ICU team at CDH made significant improvements in overall quality of care and teamwork and reduced standard mortality and mortality due to sepsis to help them earn the designation, according to AACN. This award reflects two of CDH's intensive care units including Neuro/Medical intensive care unit and Cardiac/Surgical intensive care unit.
"Achieving the Beacon Award gold designation is a tribute to all our nurses and staff," said Deb O'Donnell, MSN, Chief Nurse Executive, Northwestern Medicine Central DuPage Hospital. "There is a commitment to patient care at CDH that is second to none."
Founded in 1969 and based in Aliso Viejo, Calif., the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses is the largest specialty nursing organization in the world. AACN joins together the interests of more than 500,000 acute and critical care nurses and claims more than 235 chapters worldwide.
"The Beacon Award for Excellence recognizes caregivers whose consistent and systematic approach to evidence-based care optimizes patient outcomes," said Karen McQuillan, RN, President, American Association of Critical Care Nurses.
