Northwestern Expands Clinical Services in Chicago and Northern Suburbs as Part of Northwestern Medicine®
New, multi-specialty sites slated to add almost 100 primary care and nearly 20 subspecialty physicians
CHICAGO, March 12, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Officials at Northwestern Memorial HealthCare today unveiled plans to open six additional physician offices in Chicago and five surrounding north suburban markets. The newest offices in Chicago's Lakeview neighborhood and surrounding communities of Evanston, Highland Park, Glenview, Grayslake and Deerfield join two other physician offices that also opened in Grayslake and on the Northwestern Lake Forest Hospital campus in 2011.
Long range plans call for having about 100 new primary care physicians and approximately 20 specialists from Northwestern Memorial Physician Group and Northwestern Medical Faculty Foundation in these locations. All of the physicians will have faculty appointments at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. This expansion is part of the plan for Northwestern Medicine®, the shared vision between Northwestern Memorial HealthCare and Feinberg School of Medicine, to become a destination of choice for people seeking quality healthcare and for those who provide, support and advance that care through leading edge treatments and breakthrough discoveries.
"We are excited about this expansion because it broadens access to the quality primary and specialty care that patients trust and that Northwestern is so widely known for," said Daniel Derman, M.D., president, Northwestern Memorial Physicians Group and vice president, Northwestern Memorial Hospital.
"Many of our patients come from northern communities and up to now, they have had to travel longer distances for routine care. Our expansion brings the Northwestern care they seek closer to where they live or work, making access much more convenient," said Dean M. Harrison, president and CEO, Northwestern Memorial HealthCare. "In addition, a single electronic health record will allow physicians to follow their patients from location to location seamlessly.
An estimated 1.5 million consumers live in Chicago's northern Cook and Lake Counties, according to 2010 U.S. Census Bureau data. As Harrison explains, this expansion provides patients with the confidence that physicians will draw upon the strength and expertise at either of Northwestern's anchor hospitals; Northwestern Lake Forest for acute care in Lake Forest or Northwestern Memorial in Chicago for complex, tertiary care at its academic medical center campus.
"This model of care compliments the acute care and tertiary services of our hospitals while offering both primary and specialty care for our patients in their own communities," says Thomas J. McAfee, president, Northwestern Lake Forest Hospital.
In Chicago's Lakeview neighborhood for instance, NMPG will consolidate existing offices at 3245 N. Halsted and 2835 N. Sheffield into a new, multi-service site located at 1333 W. Belmont Avenue. Primary care health services will include internal medicine, dermatology, and integrative medicine, and subspecialty offerings are to entail a full radiology suite with x-ray, ultrasound and mammography.
At The Glen site, plans include outpatient offices for more than a dozen Northwestern Medical Faculty Foundation specialists in the areas of cardiology, dermatology, ENT, oncology, orthopaedics, ophthalmology, neurology, urology, imaging along with NMPG primary care physicians and diagnostics. Beyond NMPG primary care, the Evanston medial offices near Northwestern University will also include NMFF orthopaedics.
"Bringing several of our distinctive clinical programs such as orthopaedics, neurology, cardiology, and gastroenterology to Grayslake, Lake Forest and Glenview, in addition to primary care, ensures patients can be seen by top specialists in any of these locations," said Dennis Murphy, executive vice president and chief operating officer, Northwestern Memorial Hospital.
The Lakeview location is on target to open this September. Other planned offices, their locations and slated open dates are as follows:
- Highland Park, 600 N. Central Ave. — Opens April 2012
- Grayslake, 1275 E Belvidere Rd — Opens April 2012
- Evanston, 1700 Maple Avenue — Opens November 2012
