NEW YORK, Feb. 1, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Northwell Health-GoHealth Urgent Care, one of the nation's fastest-growing urgent care companies in New York, today announced the "Love Your Heart" heart-health initiative in conjunction with February's American Heart Month. Between Mon., Feb. 6 and Wed., Feb. 18, Northwell Health-GoHealth Urgent Care will offer free blood pressure readings, Body Mass Index (BMI) calculations and waist circumference measurements at all locations.
"Our Heart Month initiative is another great example of how we are building a unique 'patient first' culture of care," said Todd Latz, CEO of GoHealth Urgent Care. "By providing access to these screenings, patients can gain insights into their heart health, empowering them to learn more about cardiovascular issues, become more self-aware and make healthy lifestyle choices."
According to the CDC, heart disease is the leading cause of death for both men and women, and more than 730,000 Americans have a heart attack each year. But can these conditions be prevented, and do people know the warning signs? To increase awareness of cardiovascular issues and encourage more people to take charge of their heart health, Northwell-GoHealth Urgent Care will offer the free screenings during each center's open hours. Patients have the option to make an appointment and can check-in online to save time. The screenings will take approximately 30 minutes with results provided in real time. They will also receive take-home literature on cardiovascular health.
"While people are generally aware of heart conditions, we must bring more attention to risk factors, prevention, diagnosis and treatment," said Dr. Robert Korn, Medical Director at Northwell Health-GoHealth Urgent Care. "By offering patients these important tests at no cost, we're providing educational tools to help them better understand cardiovascular health and their own potential issues."
Northwell Health-GoHealth Urgent Care's network has developed 33 urgent care centers across the greater New York area, spanning Long Island, Queens, Westchester, Staten Island and Manhattan. The centers combine GoHealth Urgent Care's award-winning and inviting facility design with Northwell Health's best-in-class, quality providers. All of Northwell Health-GoHealth Urgent Care's centers operate seven days a week with extended evening hours and welcome walk-in patients, with the opportunity to "save your spot" by checking-in online. Each center features x-ray equipment and a lab, combined with an integrated electronic medical record system that can be accessed by caregivers across Northwell Health.
