NEW YORK, Sept. 21, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- To advance the strategic affiliation agreement signed last year, Northwell Health today announced the appointment of six Rothman Orthopaedic Institute orthopedic surgeons to clinical leadership positions at Phelps Hospital in Sleepy Hollow and Lenox Hill Hospital in Manhattan.
The five physicians who will now lead Phelps' orthopaedic services will be based at Rothman's recently opened Tarrytown, NY office at 658 White Plains Road – the first practice in New York established by this prestigious orthopedic group.
Rothman plans to open Manhattan offices in October at 176 Third Avenue (at 16th Street) and in April 2019 at 770 Lexington Avenue (between 60th and 61st streets), which will be led by Anthony A. Romeo, MD, chief of orthopaedics at Rothman Orthopaedic Institute – New York, who will also serve as chief of shoulder and elbow surgery at Lenox Hill Hospital.
Rothman orthopaedic surgeons will be collaborating with Northwell physicians to continue the health system's development of a high-quality, orthopaedic services network throughout the New York area.
"This partnership with a nationally recognized orthopaedic group like the Rothman Institute, combined with the expertise of the physicians of Northwell Health's Orthopaedic Institute, positions Northwell as New York's premium destination for orthopaedic services," said Nicholas Sgaglione, MD, senior vice president, executive director and chair of orthopedics at Northwell Health.
"This is the next step in our relationship with Northwell and we couldn't be happier," said Alexander R. Vaccaro, MD, PhD, MBA, president of Rothman Orthopaedic Institute, Richard H. Rothman Professor and chair of the Department of Orthopaedics, and professor of neurosurgery at Thomas Jefferson University and Hospitals. "We anticipate further integration into the Northwell system as our partnership grows. They are an outstanding partner and we look forward to a bright future together."
"Our clinical integration is key," said Dr. Romeo. "By establishing leadership positions our surgeons are able to define the protocols, personnel, and pre and post-op care our patients require. This is just the beginning, but we are confident that once we establish our processes we can provide the best orthopedic care in the region."
In addition to Dr. Romeo and his new role at Lenox Hill Hospital, following are the Rothman physicians appointed by Northwell to clinical leadership positions at Phelps Hospital:
- Justin Tsai, MD, chief of foot and ankle surgery;
- Dan Seigerman, MD, chief of hand surgery;
- Joseph Lee, MD, chief of spine surgery;
- Brandon Erickson, MD, chief of shoulder/elbow surgery; and
- Meghan Bishop, MD, chief of sports medicine.
