Dec. 3 event to match veteran-friendly companies with talented veteran, National Guard and Reserve job-seekers
HERNDON, Va., Nov. 22, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Northern Virginia Technology Council (NVTC), the largest technology council in the nation, today announced a partnership with the Virginia Department of Veterans Services, the Virginia Employment Commission, ESGR, H2H.jobs, and the SkillSource Group to host a veteran recruiting event on Dec. 3. The event will match veteran-friendly companies with qualified veteran, National Guard and Reserve candidates.

At the "fair-type" event, all participating employers or hiring managers will present their companies and job openings directly to a plenary audience of military and veteran candidates, as well as have the opportunity to conduct behavioral interviews and screening sessions to get to know their prospects better.
Unlike the traditional "job fair," during which candidates go from table to table, this unique event turns the tables on participants, with employers taking the lead. Armed with resumes before the event, employers will actively recruit their talent, going from table to table of the military workforce talent pool. In addition, all veteran applicants will be pre-screened by the Virginia Employment Commission and the SkillSource Group, and will have the hard credentials and soft skills required for a successful workplace fit.
The event is the first of many for the NVTC Veterans Employment Initiative, a new program connecting veterans to employment opportunities within Virginia's technology community. The Initiative was launched on August 20, 2013 and featured support from Gov. Bob McDonnell as well as Sen. Mark Warner. Over the coming months, the Initiative will be launching more events and resources promoting best practices in veteran recruitment, training and retention, to encourage member companies to create or expand their own veteran employment programs and to provide mentors and a community to veterans coming into our companies.
