Northern California Laborers Support Edwin Lee for Interim Mayor of San Francisco
PLEASANTON, Calif., Jan. 7, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Northern California District Council of Laborers and its affiliated Local Union No. 261 (San Francisco) endorse Edwin Lee for Interim Mayor of San Francisco.
On January 7, 2011, Lee was selected by the San Francisco Board of Supervisors for Interim Mayor by a vote of 10-1. This appointment is subject to ratification of the new San Francisco Board of Supervisors in the event of a vacancy.
According to Ramon Hernandez, Business Manager, Laborers' Local Union No. 261, "Edwin Lee represents the exact type of leadership that is needed in San Francisco. He has an excellent reputation, as a thoughtful, deliberative and fair-minded person. His commitment to our City is unquestioned. Lee was sworn in as City Administrator of the City and County of San Francisco on June 22, 2005. He came to this position with a long, established reputation in City government, having served in various capacities under four mayors. Prior to his employment with the City and County of San Francisco, Lee was the Managing Attorney for the San Francisco Asian Law Caucus, for which he worked from 1979 to 1989. Lee graduated Summa Cum Laude from Bowdoin College in 1974 and from Boalt Hall School of Law, University of California, Berkeley, in 1978.
The Interim Mayor of San Francisco will succeed Gavin Newsom, who won his bid for State of California Lieutenant Governor. The position is for less than a year, until the next mayoral election in November, 2011.
